8.1 In relation to you Animation explain how you would use it in your teaching.
I would use my animation as an introduction of a mathematics lesson based upon number factors and getting the students to see ten as a unit.
The animation is the hook if you like for capturing the students’ attention and acting as a vehicle for discussions, interactions and investigations of numbers that added up to ten. Students are interacting with numbers; numerically, written and in a symbolically formations.
The students will be able to use the friends of ten as a maths strategy that they can add to their tool kit to be called upon when needed.
8.2 Include any comments you would like to add of things that you have done or learnt.
I learnt a great deal educationally, personally and developed my ICT skills while working through a challenging process that I was fearful of at the beginning. Using the software programs I learnt how to make learning more appealing and broadened my teaching practices, providing me with another tool to use.
While on my ten day placement the students were doing a unit on family and they created representations of themselves which I collected and turned into a type of animation with voice over recordings of the students telling who was in their family. The students loved the finished project. 8.3 What your animation is about.
My animation is about numbers that added up to ten. They are called friends of ten. Students need a sound understanding of these numbers as they will form the bases of their addition, subtraction, division and multiplication knowledge as they advance in their mathematical understand.
8.4 What do you hope your students would learn from viewing your animation?
That the students will be able to recall number facts, numbers that add up to ten without using one to one correspondences. They will be able to place singular numbers into groups that add up to ten, making addition and subtraction easier and faster for the students. Gain knowledge about the different ways the same number can be represented and extending their understanding of Ten's Frames.
I would also use my animation as a means for exploring with the students
Counting on , number patterns, doubling numbers and exploring the process of written sums e.g. that 2+6 is the same as 6+2.
8.5 What else you would like to learn about animations.
I would like to explore music making and sound effects of animations and I would like to investigate other types of animations and their use, what benefits could they have in the field of education and how I could use them. My Friends of Ten animation for Edit 124 Assignment 2.http://youtu.be/8Wq2n4bbBVw I found creating this animation a very challenging process the concept of what to do came to me while on my 10 day prac. I enjoyed the creative process of actually making the props and see the animation come together. The effects where great fun to experiment with but I really had a hard time working with the music programs I found then frustrating to download and use in the end I gave up on trying to use them. I will be revisiting these programs and continue searching for others that may be easy to use as I can see them having great potential as a learning tool for both myself and my students. While studying EDIT 124 I have had the opportunity to improve and extend to my ICT skills. I incorporated these skills on my ten day practical experience as strategies for extending my students learning using methodology they like to interact with thus making learning fun for them and ensuring that they were learning. The students and I created a type of animation together.
I learnt a valuable lesson about making sure that my home software and the schools software is compatible otherwise the work you have done cannot be used.
I used the interactive whiteboard for demonstrative purposes associated with my lessons ensuring that the students had an understanding of what they had to do. I l learnt about maintaining elements of the smart board projector and now I am able to clean the filters which should be done on regular bases. Another form of ICT used was YouTube videos which were selected for their content information by the classroom teacher as a vehicle for introducing lesson topics or as a method for extending the children’s knowledge base. I created different types of spreadsheets, which can be used for tracking my future students learning. Highlighting areas of need that I should focus upon with the students ensuring all areas of their educational needs are being met. See the above examples of spreadsheets that I have created.
Evernote is a program that I will continue to use throughout my teaching career, I find it a create resources current while I am studying.
I am able to use advance word process elements which can be used for marking purposes with my students.
